The Cal State LA campus is located in the heart of Los Angeles, a thriving multicultural metropolis with beautiful beaches and ideal summer weather. The campus is easily accessible by metro/bus for SoCal residents.

Housing is available for out-of-town artists. Apartments have either two or four bedrooms. Guests may choose double occupancy (two people per bedroom) or single occupancy (one person per bedroom). Two-bedroom apartments have one shared bathroom and four-bedroom apartments have two shared bathrooms. Each apartment has a fully furnished living and dining room, as well as a storage room. Kitchens have a stove, microwave, refrigerator and dishwasher. Recreation includes a game room with a pool table, ping-pong table and television, a basketball court, sand volleyball court and several spacious open lawn areas for outdoor activities.


Singers may choose to apply to both the Emerging Professional Program and the Studio Artists Program.

Application deadline:

  • February 18 for live auditions in New York City, Chicago, Houston and San Francisco.  Audition time slots are first-come, first-served.  Casting starts beginning of March.
  • Applications still accepted for video auditions and live auditions in LA/Pasadena.

After you apply, we will send you an invoice for the application fee which can be paid by PayPal, credit/debit card or check.


Please prepare the following repertoire:

→ Emerging Professional Artists

  • Five (5) arias or art songs. One piece must be in English.
  • Monologue

→ Studio Artists

Two (2) contrasting selections: one piece must be in a foreign language + one piece must be an opera aria

Live auditions

Audition time slots are first-come, first-served.  An accompanist will be provided for all auditions.

Video auditions

  • Video auditions are accepted. Please upload good quality video clips to YouTube, Vimeo, Dropbox, WeTransfer, etc.
  • Successful candidates will be invited to a Skype interview.
